Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking an experienced Diesel Equipment Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, cranes, trailers, and other motorized machinery in our Richmond, VA shop. The role includes travel to client sites and overtime as needed, with a starting pay of $24.00/hour and benefits for travel expenses.

The position requires a 1st shift, full-time arrangement, with potential overtime and per diem for qualifying travel.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience with heavy equipment.
  • 5+ years in at least two technical areas (e.g., hydraulics, electronics, small engines, air conditioning).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Trade school or equivalent diesel repair/maintenance training.
  • Valid driver's license with clean record.
  • Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance preferred.
  • Additional certifications may be required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and accurate documentation.
  • Good computer, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; respond urgently when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections to keep equipment operational.
  • Review daily assignments with the Shop Foreman and prioritize repair and maintenance work.
  • Complete work orders accurately and within expected timeframes.
  • Document mileage, operating hours, repair dates, and work performed.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and elevate emergency or high-priority repairs when necessary.
  • Minimize equipment downtime by efficiently coordinating tools, parts, and repairs.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow all safety policies and operating procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team to complete repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Travel to other locations for maintenance, repairs, training, seminars, meetings, or emergency support.
  • Perform additional maintenance-related duties as needed.

Diesel Equipment Mechanic

Pay: Starting at $24.00/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Equipment Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, cranes, trailers, and other motorized equipment.

This position is based in a shop environment but requires some travel to other locations and job sites. Travel may include supporting emergency equipment repairs, performing preventive maintenance, or assisting with fleet repairs at locations without a dedicated mechanic.

Travel assignments include overtime and per diem.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience working with heavy equipment, track equipment, trailers, cranes, or similar machinery.
  • 5+ years of experience in at least two technical areas, such as:
    • Hydraulics
    • Electronics
    • Small engines
    • Air conditioning
    • Other related mechanical systems
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Trade school, dealership, factory service training, or equivalent technical education in diesel mechanical repair/maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are preferred.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on assigned responsibilities.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Good computer, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to respond with urgency when equipment repairs require immediate attention.
Physical & Work Environment
  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, climbing, and carrying materials or parts.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours when needed.
  • Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Loads over 50 pounds should be reduced when possible.
  • Assistance is required for items weighing more than 75 pounds or materials that create ergonomic lifting or movement challenges.
