Job summary

Jobtailor in Dearborn, MO, is seeking a Senior Powertrain Calibration Engineer to lead development testing across chassis and engine dynamometers using the 6.7L Scorpion platform. You will own Tier 4 chassis certification deliverables and coordinate cross-functional calibration activities.

You should have 3+ years in heavy-duty diesel emissions calibration, hands-on experience with CANape/INCA, DOE methods, and data-driven validation to balance emissions, fuel economy and drivability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in powertrain calibration focused on heavy-duty diesel emissions and chassis certification.
  • Experience with 6.7L Power Stroke/Scorpion engine platform preferred.
  • Proficiency with ETAS INCA or Vector CANape and CAN protocols.
  • Deep understanding of EPA/CARB Tier 4 emissions regulations and chassis certification procedures.
  • Experience with diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems (DOC/DPF/SCR).
  • Mechanical and electrical wiring skills for prototype setup.
  • Master's or PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development testing across chassis dynamometers, engine dynamometers, and Super Duty test vehicles with the 6.7L Scorpion engine.
  • Use virtual vehicle analytical simulations to front-load calibration development and demonstrate Tier 4 system capability.
  • Own calibration deliverables required for Tier 4 chassis certification and regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct sensitivity studies to balance emissions, fuel economy, performance, and drivability.
  • Establish preferred control-variable values using data-driven approaches.
  • Coordinate calibration of diesel engine, fuel system, turbocharger, EGR, aftertreatment, transmission, and driveline.
  • Apply DOE methods to map calibration spaces and define robust operating strategies.
  • Lead prototype system setup and commissioning in test environments.
  • Document and present calibration progress and Tier 4 status to leadership and teams.

Job description

  • Lead development testing across chassis dynamometers, engine dynamometers, and physical Super Duty test vehicles equipped with the 6.7L Scorpion diesel engine
  • Use virtual vehicle analytical simulations to front-load calibration development and demonstrate Tier 4 system capability
  • Own calibration deliverables required for Tier 4 chassis certification, including test procedures, data packages, and regulatory compliance documentation
  • Conduct sensitivity studies to balance emissions compliance, fuel economy, performance, and drivability
  • Establish preferred control-variable values using a data-driven approach
  • Coordinate calibration of the diesel engine, fuel injection system, turbocharger, EGR, DOC/DPF/SCR aftertreatment, transmission, and driveline
  • Use Design of Experiments methods to map multi-variable calibration spaces and define robust operating strategies
  • Lead prototype Super Duty system setup and commissioning in chassis dynamometer and vehicle environments
  • Perform system-level debugging and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software issues
  • Document and present calibration progress, trade-off results, and Tier 4 compliance status to program leadership and cross-functional teams
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in powertrain calibration focused on heavy-duty diesel emissions calibration and chassis certification
  • Experience with the 6.7L Power Stroke/Scorpion engine platform strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with ETAS INCA or Vector CANape
  • Knowledge of CAN communication protocols
  • Deep understanding of EPA/CARB Tier 4 emissions regulations and chassis certification test procedures for Super Duty diesel applications
  • Design and validation experience with diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems (DOC/DPF/SCR)
  • Mechanical and electrical wiring skills for prototype vehicle/bench setup
  • Hardware-in-the-loop troubleshooting experience on diesel powertrain systems
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and chassis and engine dynamometers
  • Data engineering and statistical validation experience
  • Proven ability to analyze large-scale datasets and identify statistically significant trends
  • Master's or PhD in Engineering is preferred
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and advanced DOE optimization software such as AVL ASCMO or Model-Based Calibration Toolbox is preferred
  • Ability to lead cross-functional technical reviews and mentor junior calibration engineers
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
