Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in Tyrone, NM seeks an experienced maintenance technician to diagnose, repair and maintain heavy equipment at a major open-pit copper mine.

You will perform welding, mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on hydraulic and powertrain systems, read blueprints, and mentor other team members in a fast-paced mining environment. The role requires strong English communication and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
• Ability to read and use blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.
• Perform the removal, repair and installation of transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives and other heavy equipment systems or components.
• Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on machine systems such as hydraulic, power train and engines.
• Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining work orders and performing work area inspections.
• Operate mobile equipment such as Overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks.
• Perform welding such as Carbon arc, Plasma, Mig, Tig, and Stick.
• Perform as a Fill-in Supervisor as required.
• Train and mentor other employees.
• Perform other duties as required.
