Job summary

First Student in New Orleans is seeking a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses, ensuring safety and reliability for students. This part-time role offers a weekend/evening schedule with a competitive hourly rate, company-paid CDL Class B training, ASE testing, and a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision and 401(k).

A sign-on bonus of $2,000 is available, with career progression opportunities across 540 locations in the U.S. & Canada.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years diesel/automotive maintenance experience or equivalent schooling.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days (training provided).
• Possession of a mechanic’s tool set for duties.
• Willingness to pursue ASE certification (training and bonuses provided).
• Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform vehicle maintenance including brakes, tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains and transmissions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
