First Student in Illinois is seeking a Diesel Bus Technician to maintain a fleet of school buses serving thousands of students daily. Located in Waukegan, IL, this role focuses on preventive maintenance and safety.

You'll work with diesel and gas buses, assist senior mechanics, and follow manufacturer specs. The shift is 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k). This is a growth opportunity with a supportive team and competitive pay.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license required.
• At least 3 years of mechanic experience or recent graduation from a trade school.
• Basic hand tools and toolbox available.
• Ability to perform standard maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance such as fluid and filter changes.
• Conduct basic repairs and troubleshooting to ensure safe bus operation.
• Assist senior mechanics with more complex repairs.
• Use toolbox and hand tools following safety protocols.
• Maintain attendance and work safely with PPE.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance services such as fluid and filter changes, greasing, and inspections.
• Conduct basic repairs and troubleshooting to ensure buses operate safely and efficiently.
• Assist senior mechanics with more complex repairs, gaining valuable skills and experience.
• Use your toolbox and hand tools to complete work accurately, following safety protocols and manufacturer specifications.
• Maintain consistent attendance and work safely, using all required PPE.

Must-Have Qualifications
