Job summary

Aerotek in Mount Clemens, MI is seeking a Die Setter to set up, install, and optimize progressive dies in stamping presses, ensuring safe, efficient production and high-quality parts. You will perform first-piece inspections, adjust tooling, and maintain dies across six buildings.

This contract-to-hire role is onsite in a multi-building stamping operation with shifts starting 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., occasional Saturday work, and overtime rewards.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience setting up progressive dies into stamping presses.
  • Ability to adjust press parameters and ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Experience with die maintenance and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and install progressive dies into stamping presses according to job specifications and production schedules.
  • Adjust press parameters, including feed length, shut height, sensors, and press settings, to ensure proper operation and consistent part quality.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and make precise adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and repeatable quality.
  • Safely operate stamping presses while monitoring production output for defects, abnormalities, or equipment issues.
  • Conduct minor die maintenance, including sharpening punches, replacing springs, and cleaning and servicing die components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to die performance, material feed, or machine function to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate production and setup records, including part counts, setup times, and maintenance and adjustment logs.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures and immediately report hazards, defects, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling efficiency, die setup processes, and overall production flow.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall production needs and company goals.

Job Title: Die SetterJob Description

This role is responsible for setting up, installing, and optimizing progressive dies in stamping presses to support safe, efficient, and high-quality production. You will ensure accurate setups, perform first-piece inspections, maintain dies, and troubleshoot issues to keep production running smoothly across multiple buildings and presses.

Essential Skills
  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience setting up and installing progressive dies into stamping presses.
  • Proven ability to perform setups and operate stamping presses by adjusting press parameters, including feed length, shut height, sensors, and press settings.
  • Experience performing first-piece inspections and making precision adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and quality.
  • Practical experience with die maintenance, including preventive maintenance and die repair.
  • Understanding of die design principles as they relate to setup, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving issues related to die performance, material feed, and machine operation.
  • Ability to maintain accurate production and setup documentation, including counts, times, and maintenance logs.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and identifying and reporting hazards promptly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with die maintenance beyond routine tasks is a plus.
  • Familiarity with progressive die tooling in a high-volume stamping environment.
  • Comfort working with a variety of presses and related equipment, including welding and forming machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on producing consistent, high-quality parts.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement efforts related to tooling and production processes.

Work Environment

The role is based in a multi-building stamping operation, with responsibility across six buildings. The facility runs progressive presses ranging from 100 to 600 tons, along with MIG welding machines and orbit forming machines. This is a typical stamping facility environment: it can be loud and is not the cleanest, though it is not excessively dirty. You can expect a hands-on, industrial setting with heavy equipment and active production lines. Current schedules include a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with regular Saturday work from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., totaling approximately 50 to 60 hours per week. The environment requires comfort with noise, industrial machinery, and extended work hours, with appropriate safety practices and attire suitable for a stamping facility.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
