Job description

The Role

General Motors is seeking qualified Die Maker Journeypersons. Working under minimal supervision, the Die Maker Journeyperson is responsible for building, repairing, remodeling, and maintaining all types of dies using various materials.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company policies.
  • Fabricate and repair dies for production, including performing welding operations as needed.
  • Read blueprints to perform die repair and fabrication.
  • Perform die repairs using mills, lathes, grinders, and hand tools.
  • Make in-press repairs of dies and tooling.
  • Conduct die tryout duties as required.
  • Utilize measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, and micrometers to repair and fabricate dies.
  • Operate a hi-lo and/or overhead crane to transport dies and heavy equipment.
  • Document and record data relevant to the department's activities.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
