GENERAL PURPOSE:
Responsible for assembling die and tooling to ensure efficient cutter make-ready and production runs. Assist with make-readies on the cutter, re-knife dies as necessary to eliminate wear items, and replace components as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Understand die cutting processes, equipment, and tooling setup.
- Read job tickets for setup specifications and instructions.
- Follow all standard operating procedures relevant to the role.
- Perform assigned tasks effectively and on schedule.
- Maintain records of daily production using specified forms.
- Record production data such as time spent on tasks.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Establish settings for tooling and stripping pins.
- Ensure all rules are in place and ready for press operation.
- Verify rubber is secure on the die and fix any issues prior to operation.
- Document operator comments regarding die and tooling.
- Re-knife dies as necessary.
- Gather materials for upcoming jobs, including blue boxes, tooling, and supplies.
- Inspect finished die and tooling for quality and accuracy.
- Compare die with film for quality assurance.
- Restock dies in proper locations after quality checks.
- Coordinate with team members to maximize production efficiency.
- Follow department policies, procedures, safety, and environmental guidelines.
- Order new tooling as needed.
- Deliver finished tooling to the appropriate press.
- Disassemble used tooling and organize parts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to pass a mechanical aptitude test or demonstrate mechanical skills through experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and instructions.
- Basic computer skills for data entry.
- Basic arithmetic skills.
- Ability to use rulers, calipers, micrometers, and inspection equipment.
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 2 years of experience with flatbed die cutters handling board stock and paper.
- Knowledge of pre-make-ready tables, benders, bridgers, miters, and cutters for reknifing.
- Understanding of cube/manual tonnage operation and adjustments.
- Knowledge of 1mm counter plates and register pins.
- Ability to modify creasing rules and cutting knives for die repair.
- Knowledge of blind make-readies, counter plates, matrix, spotting tape, and underlaying.
- Ability to recognize common packaging defects.
- Skill in creating spotting sheets and stripping boards.
