GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for assembling die and tooling to ensure efficient cutter make-ready and production runs. Assist with make-readies on the cutter, re-knife dies as necessary to eliminate wear items, and replace components as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Understand die cutting processes, equipment, and tooling setup.
2. Read job tickets for setup specifications and instructions.
3. Follow all standard operating procedures relevant to the role.
4. Perform assigned tasks effectively and on schedule.
5. Maintain records of daily production using specified forms.
6. Record production data such as time spent on tasks.
7. Keep work area clean and organized.
8. Establish settings for tooling and stripping pins.
9. Ensure all rules are in place and ready for press operation.
10. Verify rubber is secure on the die and fix any issues prior to operation.
11. Document operator comments regarding die and tooling.
12. Re-knife dies as necessary.
13. Gather materials for upcoming jobs, including blue boxes, tooling, and supplies.
14. Inspect finished die and tooling for quality and accuracy.
15. Compare die with film for quality assurance.
16. Restock dies in proper locations after quality checks.
17. Coordinate with team members to maximize production efficiency.
18. Follow department policies, procedures, safety, and environmental guidelines.
19. Order new tooling as needed.
20. Deliver finished tooling to the appropriate press.
21. Disassemble used tooling and organize parts.
22. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to pass a mechanical aptitude test or demonstrate mechanical skills through experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and instructions.
• Basic computer skills for data entry.
• Basic arithmetic skills.
• Ability to use rulers, calipers, micrometers, and inspection equipment.
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 2 years of experience with flatbed die cutters handling board stock and paper.
• Knowledge of pre-make-ready tables, benders, bridgers, miters, and cutters for reknifing.
• Understanding of cube/manual tonnage operation and adjustments.
• Knowledge of 1mm counter plates and register pins.
• Ability to modify creasing rules and cutting knives for die repair.
• Knowledge of blind make-readies, counter plates, matrix, spotting tape, and underlaying.
• Ability to recognize common packaging defects.
• Skill in creating spotting sheets and stripping boards.
