Job description

Job Overview:

As a Hemodialysis Technician, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN, perform hemodialysis procedures, order & stock supplies, disinfect/clean RO system, jugs & machines, and perform environmental safety checks of the unit.

Trinitas offers world-class expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of renal disease. Our renal program is designated with a 5-star rating through CMS for excellence in patient care. Our physicians and staff have years of experience and operate out of three convenient locations. We emphasize expert diagnosis, treatment, and early intervention for those at greatest risk.

All three Trinitas dialysis facilities have achieved 5-Diamond status through the Quality Insights Renal Network 3. The 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program is an innovative training and recognition initiative aimed at increasing awareness and building a culture of safety among patients.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • One year of nursing assistant experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Certified as mandated by CMS as a Dialysis Technician
  • BLS through American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 5 days, 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm
  • Scheduled rotating Saturdays
  • Full-time

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare patient stations and hemodialysis machines, dialyzers, appropriate lines, and dialysate bath
  • Recognize and correct problems involving dialyzer leaks or defects in arterial or venous lines
  • Obtain and record patient weights pre- and post-dialysis
  • Initiate and terminate hemodialysis treatments according to policy and procedure
  • Respond to alarms and make appropriate adjustments during treatments
  • Demonstrate clinical competence in cannulation of vascular access and catheters
  • Monitor and record vital signs as per policy
  • Monitor heparin infusion via pump
  • Accurately obtain blood specimens using correct procedures and tubes
  • Provide a comforting and therapeutic atmosphere, maintaining modesty and supporting patient autonomy
  • Perform minor repairs on dialysis machinery
  • Maintain equipment information and logs for water testing and maintenance
  • Perform water sampling, chloramine testing, conductivity checks, and disinfection procedures
  • Manage bicarbonate preparations and testing
  • Document all procedures and patient data accurately
  • Take age-specific vital signs and address safety issues accordingly
  • Communicate clearly with patients, including elderly and pediatric populations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
