**Job Title:** Dialysis Patient Care Technician - PCT Preceptor

Overview

Purpose and Scope

As part of the dialysis healthcare team, you will provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulations. Responsibilities include setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting quality improvement initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Patient Care: Assist in patient education, evaluate vascular access, initiate and discontinue dialysis treatment, monitor patient responses, and ensure proper documentation.
2. Staff Support: Participate in recruitment, training, and performance evaluations of clinical staff. Serve as a preceptor for new staff members.
3. Education and Communication: Collaborate with team members to ensure effective communication and ongoing staff education, including infection control and facility maintenance.
4. Maintenance and Record Keeping: Maintain cleanliness of equipment, document treatment data, and ensure proper lab specimen handling.
5. Infection Control & Transitional Care: Support infection control practices and assist with transitional patient care, including the first 4 weeks of dialysis for new patients.
6. Physical Demands & Conditions: Be prepared for physical activities such as lifting and standing for extended periods, and work in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious materials.
7. Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor's preferred. Valid PCT certification and state licensure as applicable. Minimum five years of patient care experience preferred.
