Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s Department of Radiology seeks a full-time TH Medical Radiographer 1 / X-Ray Technologist to perform diagnostic radiographic exams and ensure high-quality images with patient safety in mind.

The Radiographer will work closely with radiologists and clinical staff to verify orders, position patients, monitor exams, and maintain equipment while following ALARA principles and infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations per departmental protocols and physician orders.
• Maintain patient safety and radiation protection per ALARA principles.
• Provide high-quality diagnostic images with attention to patient comfort and privacy.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations in accordance with departmental protocols and professional standards.
• Operate imaging equipment safely to obtain high-quality images while minimizing exposure.
• Verify patient identity and orders before imaging procedures.
• Prepare, position, and monitor patients during examinations.
• Apply ALARA and radiation protection requirements.
• Evaluate images for technical quality and diagnostic adequacy; repeat only when necessary.
• Document imaging procedures and exam completion in RIS/PACS.
• Follow infection control procedures and safety standards.
• Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare teams to coordinate imaging services.
• Maintain equipment and work areas, report malfunctions.
• Provide courteous service to patients and staff.
• Participate in quality assurance and continuing education.
• Assist with orientation of students and staff.
