Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University's Department of Radiology is seeking a full-time X-Ray Technologist / TH Medical Radiographer 1 in New York. You will perform diagnostic imaging across general x-ray, portable, and fluoroscopy exams, delivering high-quality images per established protocols.

The role requires RIS/PACS familiarity, patient care excellence, and the ability to adapt to changing schedules while maintaining ALARA and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Experience with diagnostic imaging workflows and quality standards.
• Familiarity with RIS and PACS data entry and verification.
• Ability to teach imaging concepts to House Staff and others.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic imaging including general x-ray, portables, fluoroscopy and other exams.
• Operate portable and fluoroscopic equipment in OR and diagnostic settings.
• Produce high-quality images efficiently according to protocols.
• Provide excellent patient service and assist customers with imaging needs.
• Ensure accurate patient identification and quality patient care.
• Adapt to emergent situations while maintaining ALARA principles.
• Educate House Staff or other personnel on imaging equipment.
• Complete exams in RIS and verify on PACS; burn CDs/DVDs when necessary.
• Maintain scheduling flexibility as hours may change per departmental needs.

Job description

The Department of Radiology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time X-Ray Technologist / TH Medical Radiographer 1. The successful candidate will:

• Perform diagnostic imaging including general x-ray, portables, fluoroscopy and all other applicable diagnostic exams.
• Be familiar with all diagnostic equipment including portable and fluoroscopic equipment and the operating room.
• Have the ability to produce high quality images efficiently regardless of volume. Performs exams in accordance with established protocols.
• Demonstrate the ability to provide assistance to external and internal costumers, and provide excellent customer service.
• Be responsible for patient care while performing imaging, to include accuracy of patient identification.
• Be able to deal with emergent situations.
• Maintain principle of ALARA.
• Have the ability to teach House Staff or other personnel in the technical aspects of imaging equipment.
• Have prior experience with computerized patient information systems, including Radiology Information Systems and PACS.
• Complete all exams immediately in RIS and verify on PACS.
• Burn CD’s and DVD’s when necessary.
• Have scheduling flexibility as hours may change on as needed basis according to departmental operating needs.
• Adhere to all SUNY Downstate Medical Center and department policies and procedures, to include principle of behavior.
• Adhere to hospital/ department infection control policies and procedures.
• Maintain a courteous and pleasant disposition with patients.
• Adhere to time and attendance policies.
• Perform other tasks as required and as business needs warrant.
