Diagnostic Technologist - Casual (Evenings)

UPMC Bedford is looking for a casual Diagnostic Technologist to work evening shifts, including weekdays and weekends.

Purpose:

Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities:
  • Properly identifies all patients using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol during procedures. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying departmental protocols for optimal data acquisition. Documents patient history in electronic records as required.
  • Administers PO and rectal contrast per physician orders and departmental policy.
  • Ensures all exams are properly coded, tracked through RIS, networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and charges are accurately entered.
  • Performs diagnostic radiography procedures using established protocols without requiring constant supervision.
  • Uses complex imaging equipment for data acquisition, analysis, manipulation, and documentation, following protocols.
  • Interacts effectively with patients and co-workers, demonstrating care, listening, dignity, and respect. Works well within the department and with other departments to expedite patient care.
  • Adjusts protocols independently and shows initiative in applying ionizing radiation appropriately for diagnostic radiography.
  • Communicates instructions clearly to patients, explains procedures to ease fears, and encourages cooperation.
  • Graduates from an ARRT-approved Radiologic Technology program or has verification from an ARRT-approved school with a scheduled graduation date.
  • Technologists hired before graduation will have indirect supervision by an ARRT-certified technologist until degree verification.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • ARRT Registry eligible as a Radiologic Technologist. Must obtain radiography registry within 6 months of hire.
  • CPR or BLS certification required, based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills components within 30 days of hire.
