Job description

Job Summary

Under indirect supervision performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of images. Responsible for the care of the patient while in the diagnostic department.

Work Schedule

Full‑Time, Monday through Friday with varying hours of 7:30 am – 6:00 pm with weekend rotation.

Major Job Functions
  • Practice cost containment measures in all aspects.
  • Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures.
  • Assist radiologists as needed.
  • Prepare patients for procedures (e.g., undressing, questioning, and permitting).
  • Act as liaison between referring physicians, radiologists, and patients.
  • Use computer to start and end procedures for patients.
  • Enter all important information in Mediinformatix.
  • Answer telephone as indicated and accept orders from referring physician offices.
  • Generate stat sheets and send or call results as ordered.
  • Stock rooms with supplies and linens weekly or as needed.
  • Clean rooms between patients according to OSHA requirements.
  • Cleans and disinfects all wheelchairs in department.
  • Rotate gathering of dirty linens and wash linens.
  • Rotate disinfecting and sterilizing of procedural trays and maintenance of autoclaves.
  • Check films and CDs out as needed. Call for outside films as needed for comparison.
  • At the end of the day, run off schedules for the next day and close down rooms.
  • Shield all patients if possible.
  • Make sure all procedures are on PACS.
  • Validate patient on PACS.
  • Assist as needed during emergencies.
  • Follow all OSHA standards for bloodborne pathogens.
  • Orient and educate students and new technologists.
  • Scan films and paperwork.
  • Retrieve films from file room.
  • Make CDs
Specifications
  • Education: Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Experience: No post‑graduate experience required.
  • Certification/License/Registration: Registered or Registry‑eligible through the ARRT. CPR certification required.
  • Position Titles and Number Supervised: None.
  • Special Training/Skills: Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations, display courtesy and empathy toward patients, co‑workers, and physicians, make sound judgments, and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Must have good communication skills and be discrete with confidential information.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to move about freely, assist in the lifting of physically compromised patients, and possess sufficient visual and auditory acuity to perform tasks remotely located to the patient.
  • Working Conditions: Works in a medical facility; subject to electrical, chemical, and radiant energy hazards; exposure to infectious disease and lifting hazards; sits, stands, and walks intermittently throughout the day; must stoop and bend in the course of job performance; must lift patients and supplies.
