Mid Florida Eye in Mount Dora, FL is seeking a motivated Diagnostic Technician who is patient-focused to join our premier ophthalmology practice.

You will perform diagnostic tests, assist ophthalmologists, and provide compassionate patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting. Certification in COA or COT is valued, with opportunities for career advancement and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required or equivalent; post-secondary ophthalmic training preferred.
• Certification as COA/COT is highly regarded.
• Strong communication and empathy for patient care essential.
• Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and software required.
• Attention to detail in fast-paced clinical environments.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and eye anatomy helpful.

Responsibilities

• Obtain detailed patient history focusing on eye-related symptoms and medications.
• Administer basic vision tests (visual acuity, color vision).
• Conduct diagnostic tests including fundus photography, OCT, visual field testing, A-scan/B-scan, and topography.
• Assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating eye conditions.
• Provide compassionate patient care and clear documentation.

As an essential member of the ophthalmology healthcare team, the Diagnostic Technician plays a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating various eye conditions and disorders. This dynamic healthcare professional possesses a unique skill set and specialized training to perform a range of diagnostic procedures and patient care tasks within the field of ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

• Obtain detailed patient history, including any eye-related symptoms, medical conditions, and medications.
• Administer basic vision tests, such as visual acuity and color vision testing, to gather essential information.
• Conduct variety of specialized tests, including but not limited to
• Fundus Photography: Capturing images of the back of the eye to assess the retina and optic nerve
• Visual Field Testing: Evaluating peripheral vision to detect abnormalities
• Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT): Creating high-resolution cross-sectional images of the eye's structures
• A-scan and B-scan Ultrasound: Measuring the size and structure of the eye, useful for diagnosing conditions like glaucoma and retinal detachment
• Corneal Topography: Mapping the cornea's curvature to assist in fitting contact lenses and diagnosing corneal conditions

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is typically required, although some positions may prefer or require post-secondary training in ophthalmic technology
• Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) is highly regarded
• Strong communication skills and empathy for patient care
• Proficiency in operating ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and software
• Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Knowledge of medical terminology and eye anatomy
