The University of Kentucky’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) is seeking a Diagnostic Technician to join the Molecular Section. You will process specimens, run diagnostic assays, evaluate results, and maintain proper records while reporting findings to the team.

Based at the Coldstream Research Campus in Lexington, KY, this full-time position offers exceptional benefits and opportunities for training, with occasional overtime during outbreaks and a strong emphasis on bioinformatics

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree required.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access).
• Experience with bioinformatics tools or software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process specimens and run diagnostic assays.
• Evaluate results and maintain accurate records.

• Physical Requirements: Lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Sitting/standing for extended periods of time as well as extended periods of repetitive motion and general laboratory duties required as part of this position.
• Shift: Days: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM (40 hrs/wk). In the event of an outbreak, overtime (including nights and weekends) may be required.

Job Summary

The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory ( UKVDL ) develops and applies state-of-the-art diagnostic methodology to improve animal health and marketability, to protect the public health and to assist in the preservation of the human-animal bond through the principles of One Health. This position is a vital member of the team serving as a Diagnostic Technician. The duties for this position in the Molecular Section of the UKVDL include process specimens; run diagnostic assays; evaluate results; keep proper records and report results; database management ; bioinformatics; and assist in the training of other employees as needed.
