Responsibilities

• Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions
• Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings.
• Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history relevant to the condition. Directs the patient to move into positions for best view
• Spreads gel on the skin to aid transmission of sound waves
• Operates equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. Images are formed for interpretation
• Views the screen during the scan, looks for cues that contrast healthy vs. unhealthy areas. Selects images for physician review
