Job description

Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) assignments at this level are above the full performance level, performing the full range of duties. Performs a wide variety of complex ultrasound (US) imaging examinations for FVAMC patients to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R)
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments involving computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Ultrasound (US), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months or the equivalent in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
  • Credentialing standards as per Public Law 97-35 and 42 CFR Part 75.

Grade Determinations:

GS-9 level requires at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade, demonstrating clinical competencies. Incumbents are fully functional as advanced DRTs, performing complex imaging procedures independently, and may have specialized assignments.

Duties include:

  • Reviewing requests for US examinations and determining the best approach for patient care.
  • Positioning patients and explaining procedures.
  • Operating sonography equipment and performing exams such as AAA, abdominal, carotid, DVT, gallbladder, kidney, liver, pelvis, scrotum, spleen, thyroid, venous Doppler, biopsies, etc.
  • Monitoring patient condition, assisting radiologists, training personnel, developing training plans, and maintaining equipment and quality control programs.

Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Benefits include competitive salary, paid time off, parental leave, child care subsidy, retirement options, and federal insurance programs.
