Job description

Summary

The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) - Team Leader Mammography is fully qualified as an Advanced DRT and can perform assigned tasks independently.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for duties involving computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M), performed independently.
  • Education: Completion of a 24-month post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program accredited by JRCERT or equivalent.
  • Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
  • English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Experience: At least one year of relevant experience demonstrating clinical competencies at the next lower grade.

Assignments:

  • Technologists at this level may be appointed as Lead DRTs, functioning as a lead for a group of DRTs at GS-9 level and below.
  • The Lead DRT provides a full range of general radiologic exams, with broad knowledge of modalities, and reports to a higher supervisor.
  • Must demonstrate technical KSAs and potential to acquire assignment-specific KSAs.

Preferred Experience: Minimum 3 years in Mammography, knowledge of equipment, QA functions, FDA and MQSA regulations.

Physical Demands: Moderate lifting, light carrying, pushing, reaching, standing, kneeling, bending, and visual and auditory requirements.

Duties

This position involves administrative duties, QC and QA compliance, managing a QA/QC program, collaborating with staff, maintaining certifications, equipment inspections, performing complex mammography procedures, and ensuring high-quality patient care.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
