Summary
This is an Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) Computed Tomography (CT) assigned to the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS). This vacancy remains open until filled, with the first cut-off date on 2/14/2025, and subsequent bi-weekly cut-offs until the position is filled.
Qualifications
Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
- Education: Completion of a 24-month or longer post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
- Certification: Certified in general radiologic technology by ARRT (R), with advanced certification required for CT assignments.
- Credentialing Standards: Must meet standards outlined in the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981 and related regulations.
- English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English as required by law.
- Grandfathering Provision: Current VHA DRT employees on the effective date are considered to meet all basic requirements.
- Grade Determinations: GS-09 level requires at least one year of experience at the GS-08 level, demonstrating clinical competencies, independence in providing radiologic services, and specific knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and CT procedures.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Demonstrate knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information, assessing contraindications, understanding patient care, and performing complex CT procedures. Ability to train staff and perform specialized imaging studies.
- Physical Requirements: Includes standing, walking, lifting, reaching, and visual acuity, among others, typical for radiologic technology roles.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement with initial review cut-off on 2/14/2025, and subsequent bi-weekly reviews until filled.
- Prioritize and perform CT exams, including emergent cases, and coordinate patient preparation and transportation.
- Perform CT procedures, including reconstructions and sterile techniques for biopsies or aspirations.
- Adhere to infection control and safety policies, including proper attire, hand hygiene, and disposal of sharps.
- Assist radiologists during procedures, prepare contrast materials, and monitor patient reactions.
- Perform routine and complex CT studies, including CTA, pulmonary embolism, and gated studies.
- Train new hires, students, and contractors, and stay updated on new developments in CT imaging.
- Work schedule includes rotating shifts, with specific hours and days, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Position is non-virtual, with no PCS authorized, and no recruitment incentive.
