Job description

Summary

At VA Augusta Health Care System, our health care teams are deeply experienced and guided by the needs of Veterans, their families, and caregivers. This is an open continuous announcement. Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  1. Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3g.
  2. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently. Advanced certification indicates the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and passed the designated examination.
  3. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or other recognized accrediting agencies.
  4. Credentialing Standards: Must meet the standards outlined in the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, including successful completion of an educational program meeting or exceeding those standards and certification as radiographers. Current VHA employees who meet the criteria may qualify under the Grandfathering Provision.
  5. Grade Requirements: Experience demonstrating knowledge of current radiologic practice, equivalent to 1 year of active practice as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT), paid or unpaid. Experience must be earned after completing basic certification requirements.

Duties

Major duties include assisting radiologists with fluoroscopy examinations, setting up x-ray rooms, performing bone density examinations, registering patients, maintaining records, practicing radiation safety, performing reconstructions of CT and angiographic studies, stocking supplies, and training less experienced technologists and students. Work schedule is Wednesday to Saturday, 8:00 am to 6:30 pm.
