Job description

Summary

Recruitment/Relocation Incentives May Be Authorized for Highly Qualified Candidates. The incumbent's principal responsibilities are to independently perform general radiographic technology (R) and computed tomography (CT) procedures for the patients of the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System, along with other duties necessary for the functioning of the Imaging department.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
  • Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months or the equivalent in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
  • Credentialing Standards: Must meet standards in 42 CFR Part 75, including certification as radiographers.
  • Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
  • English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Grade Determinations: For GS-9 level, candidates must be fully functional as an advanced DRT, capable of performing tasks independently, including complex imaging procedures, clinical instruction, and basic quality management duties. Experience of at least one year at the next lower grade level demonstrating relevant clinical competencies is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrate technical KSAs such as balancing patient and staff needs, assessing contraindications, knowledge of radiologic procedures, and physical assessment. Candidates should also show potential to acquire assignment-specific KSAs.

Duties

Include but are not limited to:

  • Performing general radiographic procedures, CT imaging, and limited interventional procedures.
  • Preparing patients and equipment, administering contrast media, and observing patient safety and comfort.
  • Processing images, maintaining equipment, and ensuring quality assurance.
  • Providing patient education and clerical support, including managing images and scheduling.
  • Participating in on-call duties as scheduled.
Work Schedule & Benefits

Work hours are from 12:00 pm to 12:00 am, days vary, including every other weekend and holidays.
