Job summary

McPherson Hospital Inc. seeks a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer for part-time/as-needed shifts in our imaging department. You will produce high-quality ultrasound images and support patient care across outpatient, inpatient, and clinic settings.

This role requires RDMS RVT(VT) certification, BLS, and Kansas licensing; experience 2–3 years preferred. You’ll work evenings and weekends on a rotating call basis, with benefits including ETO and EIB.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent formal training program.
  • Minimal experience required; 2–3 years preferred.
  • RDMS RVT(VT) required; OB/GYN, AB, AE preferred.
  • Kansas State Board of Healing Arts license (Exempt if Sonogram only).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound procedures with proper positioning for outpatient, inpatient and clinic settings.
  • Be proficient in or learn multiple modalities to ensure workload coverage.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment and operate safely.
  • Learn and use HIS, RIS and PACS to ensure accurate patient records.
  • Obtain patient identification and medical history for consistent care.
  • Apply safety measures to comply with regulations and protect staff and patients.
  • Willingness to take evening/weekend call on rotation with other sonographers.

Education

Associate’s degree or equivalent formal training program
RDMS RVT(VT) certification
BLS certification

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Summary:

Produces high quality images for accurate interpretation while working collaboratively with other healthcare team members toward the best outcome for the patient and organization.

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Shift Availability:
  • Part Time
  • PRN (as needed)

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Essential Accountabilities:
  • Perform Ultrasound procedures using proper positioning and protocols for optimal diagnostic value in the outpatient, inpatient and clinic setting.
  • Proficient in or ability and willingness to learn procedures in multiple modalities to assure adequate workload coverage.
  • Maintain working knowledge of equipment with ability to manipulate and maneuver safely as well as recognize malfunctions for safety of patient and operator.
  • Ability to learn and maintain a working knowledge of current HIS, RIS and PACS systems utilized within the department to ensure timely and accurate patient records.
  • Obtain proper patient identification and medical history needed to ensure consistent and accurate patient care.
  • Use safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Willingness to take evening and weekend call on a rotation basis with other Ultrasound Technologists in the Department.
Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Qualifications:
Education:
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent formal training program.
Experience:
  • Minimal Experience required, 2–3-year experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
  • RDMS RVT(VT) required, OB/GYN, AB, AE preferred.
  • Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (Exempt if Sonogram only)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
Age-Specific Skills:
  • Neonate through Geriatric
Hazardous Working Conditions:
  • OSHA Category 1: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.
Environmental Surroundings:
  • Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, & noise.
Physical Working Conditions:
  • Continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking/pushing, climbing, and lifting material or patients of > 50lbs.
