Job summary

Summary:

Goldbelt Glacier Health Services is looking for a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS/ARRT).

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Receive patients, verify accuracy of personally identifiable information (PII), explain procedures, and provide appropriate care. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
  • Operate ultrasound scanners. Operate the linear, sector, 3D, and endovaginal probes as well as pulse and color Doppler capabilities of provided scanners.
  • Receive and interpret requests or instructions for diagnostic ultrasound scans; perform assigned quality control checks of the ultrasound scanners.
  • Perform, independently, in accordance with established standards and protocols, a full range of diagnostic sonography examinations including but not limited to: obstetrical sonography, including imaging of all fetal anatomy including limited fetal echocardiogram views in order to obtain accurate dating and growth parameters and evaluate for fetal abnormalities and problems with the pregnancy; pelvic sonography, including imaging of all pelvic anatomy to acquire accurate assessment of suspected pathology; and endovaginal sonography exams to obtain accurate assessment of suspected pelvic pathology; abdominal sonography to include all major organs and systems of the abdomen; elastography, invasive, musculoskeletal, and small parts sonography to include scans of the breast, thyroid and testicles; and vascular sonography to include carotid, aortic and lower extremity venous duplex scans.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Performs six upper numerous complex sonographic scanning on all anatomical areas for in-utero, neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, adhering to the facility's established policies, guidelines and SOPs. Assists radiologists and/or other physicians in performing invasive diagnostic techniques such as biopsies, aspirations and intraoperative localization of lesions, or steroid injections similar procedures.
  • Identify abnormalities during exam and determine need for additional scans of affected area.
  • Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned.
  • Use a detailed understanding of diseases of anatomy to accomplish effective ultrasound scanning.
  • Advise the physician of results of the examination and provide them with a preliminary diagnosis.
  • Notify physicians of exams requiring immediate attention, to include critical findings.
  • Maintain and clean ultrasound equipment on a regular basis in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for ultrasound examinations.
  • Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
  • Make minor adjustments on equipment. Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize electronic equipment limitations. Program the examination equipment, set up the machine and scanning techniques to be employed.
  • Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.
  • Correlate the patient's clinical history with the requested examination to be performed and obtain the results from previous pertinent diagnostic tests to correlate with the ultrasound study.
  • Consult with staff and physicians from a variety of specialties such as obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology and surgery regarding the patient's pertinent past medical history, preliminary diagnosis, and condition so it correlates with the ultrasound examination.
  • Recognize normal anatomic variants. Also, recognize anatomic changes created by medical and surgical procedures.
  • Document arrival, departure, and completed tests as required by MTF policy. Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess knowledge and ability to perform simple arithmetic.
  • Possess knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Possess excellent ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: Certificate. Graduate from an academic program accredited by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Board Certification: Certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Current registration as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Experience: 24 months of full-time experience within the last 36 months in a setting corresponding to the requirements of the task order.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $37.99 to $38.95 per hour.
