Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Bagdad, AZ is seeking a skilled mechanical maintenance professional to maximize reliability of pumps, conveyors and other process equipment. You will perform complex maintenance, repair, welding and alignment with strong emphasis on safety and environmental rules.

The role requires 4 years of mechanical/maintenance experience and the ability to work autonomously in a 24/7 operation. Subsidized housing is available and benefits include medical, dental, 401(k) and paid time

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or equivalent.
• Must demonstrate required mechanical aptitude and pass written assessments when required.
• Proficiency in basic welding skills as part of the role.
• Ability to work autonomously under minimal supervision ensuring safe production.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities with increased complexity.
• Complete work orders, order parts, and maintain maintenance documentation.
• Repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, troubleshoot and lubricate process equipment (pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, filters).
• Work with mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, welding, bearings, metallurgy, conveyors, plumbing, alignment, machine shop, blueprints and schematics; operate cranes safely.
• Follow MSHA/OSHA rules, environmental rules, SOPs, and participate in safety activities.

Description

Highly skilled employees in the mechanical maintenance craft who applies a broad level of process and mechanical/maintenance knowledge to maximize and, where possible, improve the efficiency of the overall production process. Among these workers are machinists, heavy machinery mechanics, skilled automotive technicians, certified welders, pump rebuild mechanics and specialized maintenance mechanic personnel. These employees may mentor or train other mechanical workers. Employee will work autonomously under minimal supervision where the primary objective is safe production.

• Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities with increased complexity.
• Complete Work Orders, order parts, and other maintenance documentation
• Ability to repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, troubleshoot and preventative maintenance of process equipment i.e. pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, filters, etc. Capable of performing equipment lubrication.
• Competent in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, welding, bearings, basic metallurgy (stress cracking, metal compatibility), conveyor systems, plumbing, alignment, machine shop, blueprints, schematics, and mobile equipment. Qualified to operate small and large cranes and knowledgeable of safe rigging practices.
• Follows and understands MSHA and/or OSHA rules and regulations, Environmental rules and regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities, uses plant and equipment correctly at all times.
• Assist in training of employees in the mechanical maintenance area.
• Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business need.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Four (4) years' experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.
• FPM Diagnostic Mechanic II: 75% FLEX score required; Must be able to demonstrate proficient basic welding skills.
• HEM Diagnostic Mechanic II: Practical Assessments defined in LOP; Complete first 34 classes in CAT-U or tested out with HEM FLEX Assessment.
• Shovel/Drill Diagnostic Mechanic II: Practical Assessments defined in LOP; Completed 52 courses or tested out with SDHEM Flex Assessment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $31.00 - $41.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
