Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, PA seeks a non-tenure track Diagnostic Medical Physicist (Assistant Professor) to support imaging physics at the College of Medicine and Penn State Health centers and clinics. Responsibilities include clinical support for multiple modalities, QA, and education of staff and residents.

Qualifications require a graduate degree in medical physics, at least two years of clinical experience, and ABR board certification or eligibility.

  • Supervise physicist assistants and educate/train technologists, residents, and physicians.
  • Support ACR accreditation processes and radiation shielding/dosimetry calculations.
  • Support clinical research and MR safety considerations.

Job description

POSITION SPECIFICS

The Department of Radiology Health Physics at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA is seeking a non-tenure line Diagnostic Medical Physicist (Assistant Professor) to support imaging physics activities at the College and Penn State Health's five medical centers and numerous outpatient clinics. This position will provide physics support for a customizable selection of modalities (radiographic, fluoroscopic, CT, ultrasound, mammographic, MR, or nuclear medicine/PET imaging). Some experience with MR and MR safety is preferred. Core responsibilities include advanced imaging clinical support, acceptance testing, supervision of physicist assistants, quality assurance oversight, and education/training of technologists, physicist assistants, medical residents, and physicians. Additional responsibilities include ACR accreditation support, radiation shielding and dosimetry calculations, clinical research support, and routine performance testing. This role offers a strong opportunity for professional growth and learning. The successful candidate will join our group of 7 diagnostic/medical health physicists, two MR safety officers, two medical physicist assistants, and two administrative assistants in a growing academic health system with state-of-the-art equipment and clinical care.


The position requires a graduate degree (MS, DMP, or PhD) in medical physics or a related discipline, at least two years of experience in clinical diagnostic radiology/nuclear medicine physics (including residency, if applicable), and board certification or eligibility in Diagnostic Medical Physics from the American Board of Radiology. For those board-eligible, we will provide a faculty appointment in Radiology after board certification. You must demonstrate excellent organizational, project management, and written/oral communication skills.


BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
