Job summary

Inova Health System seeks a Diabetes Nurse Educator (RN) to support prenatal patients with diabetes within the Maternal Fetal Medicine team in Fairfax, VA. The role focuses on patient education, care standard reviews, and clinical mentorship.

Responsibilities include program development, care coordination, and collaboration with the health care team. Full-time schedule; in-office hours with some flexibility; located at Willow Oak Fairfax.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• 1 year of RN experience or 250 hours of DSME/T.
• BLS from American Heart Association; CDE timeline; VA licensure eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Review patient care standards and education programs; identify variances.
• Mentor and serve as clinical resource to healthcare team.
• Delegate care activities and adjust to volume and emergent needs.
• Support marketing of Inova services via materials, presentations and events.
• Assist in planning department programs and annual presentations.
• Contribute to practice-improvement initiatives with documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Diabetes Nurse Educator Job Responsibilities:

• Reviews patient care standards and patient education programs while assisting with the identification of patient variances.
• Serves as a role model, clinical resource, and mentor to other healthcare team members.
• Delegates patient care activities to other members of the team and redirects clinical activities to respond to changes in volume and emergent care needs.
• Assists in the marketing of Inova Health System VNA Home Health services to Inova departments/operating units, physicians, consumers and the community through the development of promotional materials, presentations, health fairs, in-services and seminars.
• Participates in the planning of a department-sponsored community or professional program and presents annually.
• Assists in the implementation of practice improvement initiatives, as evidenced by documentation and observation of clinical practice.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Hours:Full-time, M-F(regular office hours, 8am-4:30pm with some flexibility needed)

Location: Maternal Fetal Medicine Office/ Willow Oak Fairfax

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing
• Experience: 1 year of Registered Nurse or 250 hours of DSME/T
• Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association; Certified Diabetes Educator: must complete CDE within 18-24 months of employment/ eligible to sit for CDE within 1 year of employment; Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state RN License

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the Diabetic patient population
• Obstetrics or Endocrinology experience preferred
