Join our Pediatric Endocrinology Department! We are a close-knit team of 5 specialized MDs, 3 APPs, and multiple ancillary staff, including Diabetes Educators, Social Workers, Triage Nurses, etc. Our team values collaboration to enhance patient care and fosters an environment of clear communication, learning opportunities, team wellbeing, and mutual respect.
The Diabetes Educator will work with pediatric patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, primarily Type 1, providing coaching to patients, families, and caregivers. Daily tasks include participating in team huddles, delivering onsite education, reviewing blood sugar data, assisting with technology initiation, and teaching virtual insulin pump classes monthly.
This role involves rotating between outpatient (75%) and inpatient (25%) settings at our Pembrooke and Parham Road locations, as well as the Children's Pavilion every other week. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8 am-4:30 pm, with occasional longer evenings.
The Diabetes Educator provides Diabetes and Self-Management Education/Training (DSME/T) to patients with various types of diabetes, including Type 1, Type 2, gestational, and steroid-induced, following current standards of care. Education topics include signs/symptoms and treatments for hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, DKA, HHNK, and sick day management.
