Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC seeks a Diabetes Educator to educate, support, and advocate for people affected by diabetes across the lifespan, promoting self-management to meet individualized goals.

The role collaborates with nurse practitioners, primary care providers, and endocrinologists to develop patient-centered plans, conducts diabetes assessments, and delivers education and medical nutrition therapy in group and individual settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Dietetics or nutrition-related field required
• Maryland licensure as Dietitian (registered) required or eligible
• Maryland RN license or compact licensure required or Maryland Nurse Practitioner license required
• CDE certification preferred/eligible; if not current, to be obtained within 1–1/2 years

Responsibilities

• Educates, supports, and advocates for people affected by diabetes across the lifespan.
• Collaborates with nurse practitioners, primary care providers, and endocrinologists to develop patient-centered diabetes plans.
• Completes diabetes assessments and develops self-management goals and education plans.
• Provides diabetes self-management education and medical nutrition therapy in individual and group settings.
• Maintains records and documentation; may provide distance visits via video, phone, or email.
