Job summary

Areté is seeking a DevSecOps Engineer to accelerate software development using GitLab and CI/CD tooling at our Falls Church, VA facility. You will own the health of a self-hosted GitLab environment, build pipelines, and integrate security scanning to shift compliance into the pipeline.

The role requires hands-on engineering, strong collaboration with Cyber Security and IT staff, occasional travel, and afterhours support. Must have active Top Secret eligibility and related security certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in CS/IT/Cybersecurity or 2+ years of relevant work experience.
• At least 3 years of hands-on DevOps/DevSecOps with modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience building, debugging, and optimizing GitLab CI pipelines; self-hosted GitLab preferred.
• Proficiency in Linux system administration (RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu).
• Hands-on with Docker/container lifecycle, registries, tagging, and promotion.
• Experience integrating security tooling into pipelines (SAST/DAST, SBOM, secret scanning).

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for pipeline failures, GitLab access, runner issues, and environment troubleshooting.
• Build reusable CI/CD templates and project scaffolding for secure baselines.
• Create onboarding guides, runbooks, and internal documentation; train on Git workflow and secure practices.
• Advise developers on branching, code review, versioning, and release management.
• Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines in GitLab CI; automate builds, tests, deployments, and security scans.
• Improve build reliability and speed through caching, artifacts, and runner sizing.
• Administer self-hosted GitLab runners across environments and artifact registries.
