Job summary

OpenTalent is seeking a DevOps Engineer Intern in Chicago. You will join a small global DevOps team responsible for firm-wide infrastructure and platform solutions, delivering work to production.

Responsibilities include deploying workloads on Kubernetes, operating in a GitOps model with Argo CD, and extending observability with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager. Mentoring will cover migration from bare metal to Kubernetes and AI-assisted tooling.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• Expected to graduate by Summer 2028.
• Hands-on Linux fundamentals.
• Networking basics: DNS, TCP/HTTP/S, ports, load balancing conceptual level.
• Git workflow: branches, merge requests, meaningful commit messages.
• Python for automation and scripting; comfortable reading YAML for Kubernetes/CI configs.
• Interest in SRE/DevOps practices: reliability, least privilege, documenting what you run.
• Preferred: Kubernetes, Prometheus/Grafana, CI/CD, Terraform/Ansible, cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure).

Responsibilities

• Deploy and operate workloads on Kubernetes: containers, Pods, Deployments, Services, Ingress.
• Work in a GitOps model using Argo CD (or equivalent): reconcile desired state from git, troubleshoot sync and health.
• Extend observability: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus targets/exporters, Grafana dashboards, Alertmanager routing.
• Triage alerts end-to-end: validate signal, correlate with changes, document findings.
• Build dashboards and panels from existing metrics; add recording rules or queries with review.
• Participate in platform upgrades following runbooks and change windows.
• Support migration of services from bare metal to Kubernetes under mentorship.
• Contribute to AI-assisted tooling; verify outputs, protect secrets and data.
