Job summary

Flatirons Solutions seeks an entry-/associate-level DevOps Engineer to join the Hosting Operations team. You will operate and improve Linux/Windows infrastructure, automate tasks, apply patches, and move services toward container-based operations while collaborating with senior engineers.

You’ll contribute to high-availability environments, backups, and on-call rotation, with mentoring as you grow your responsibilities and skills. Remote or hybrid work is available for those near Boulder.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or hands-on equivalent.
• Zero to two years in IT support, systems administration, cloud ops, or DevOps.
• Foundational Linux administration and basic Windows tasks.
• Familiar with Bash or shell scripting.
• Exposure to containers (Docker, Swarm, Podman).
• Understanding of patching, security, and access management.
• Familiar with IaC/CI/CD tools (Terraform, Jenkins, Ansible).
• Interest in virtualization, HA, and cluster management.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain Linux and Windows systems, services, access, networking, and logs.
• Apply security patches and mitigations for compliance and vulnerability reduction.
• Develop and improve automation and scripting for operations.
• Support highly available services, databases, and virtualized infra.
• Move services toward container-based operations and related infra improvements.
• Assist with backup and snapshot workflows, including restore validation.
• Use AI tools to support automation; review changes before implementation.
• Track work in Jira Kanban and keep status visible.
• Document environments clearly for operations and recovery.

About The Role

Flatirons Solutions is seeking an entry-level or associate-level DevOps Engineer to join our Hosting Operations team. You will help operate and improve the infrastructure behind customer systems, working with Linux and Windows environments, automation, security patching, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services. You will also contribute to the evolution of our platforms as we explore and adopt container-based approaches.

This role is suited to someone with foundational technical experience and a strong interest in modern infrastructure practices. You will collaborate with senior engineers, receive mentorship, and gradually take on more responsibility for design and support across the company’s platforms. The position includes participation in an on-call rotation for out-of-hours support. It may be remote or hybrid for candidates located near our Boulder, Colorado office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent hands‑on experience, training, or certifications are welcome.
• Zero to two years of experience in IT support, systems administration, cloud operations, DevOps, or a related technical role. Internships, coursework, home labs, and substantial projects are valued.
• Foundational Linux administration skills, including command-line use and basic familiarity with systemd and text editors such as vi or vim.
• Basic Windows administration skills and familiarity with common user, system, and operational tasks.
• Familiarity with Bash or shell scripting, with the ability to create or modify simple scripts with guidance.
• Exposure to containers such as Docker, Docker Swarm, or Podman through work, coursework, or personal projects.
• Understanding of security fundamentals, including patching, vulnerability remediation, and access management.
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code or CI/CD tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, Ansible, or similar technologies.
• Interest in learning virtualization, load balancing, high availability, and cluster-management technologies such as VMware/vCenter, HAProxy, or Patroni.
• Clear written communication, attention to detail, curiosity, and a practical troubleshooting mindset.
• Familiarity with Jira, Kanban, or other work-management tools, and comfort using AI tools responsibly to support technical work.
• Kubernetes experience and familiarity with Veeam, Zerto, or similar backup and recovery tools are helpful.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain Linux and Windows systems, including services, access, networking, and logs.
• Apply recurring security patches and mitigations to support compliance and reduce vulnerabilities.
• Build, maintain, and improve operational automation and scripts.
• Support highly available services, database clusters, and virtualized infrastructure.
• Help move services toward container-based operations and support related infrastructure improvements.
• Assist with backup and snapshot workflows, including understanding and validating restoration processes.
• Use AI tools to support automation, scripting, troubleshooting, documentation, and architecture; review and validate any resulting changes before implementation.
• Track work in Jira using a Kanban board and keep status visible to the team.
• Write concise, useful documentation so engineers can understand how environments are built, operated, and recovered.
• Partner with engineers on releases and incidents, participate in the on-call rotation, and perform other assigned duties.
• Follow the requirements of the Integrated Management Systems, including Quality, Information Security, and Privacy.

Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $100,000. The role offers mentorship from experienced engineers and opportunities to expand your technical responsibilities as you grow. Work arrangements may be remote or hybrid for candidates located near the Boulder, Colorado office.
