Job summary

OMW Consulting is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to own cloud infrastructure across multiple AWS accounts, drive security and scalability, and prepare systems for heavy traffic. You will take full ownership and shape the infrastructure to be modern, reliable, and secure.

The role covers consolidating five AWS accounts, enforcing least-privilege IAM, implementing robust observability with CloudWatch, and enabling rapid deployment.

Qualifications

Our client makes fundraising easy, fun, and highly profitable by motivating kids to read. They've helped thousands of schools, PTAs, PTOs, and libraries raise funds without selling products or relying on volunteers. Their mission is to empower schools and libraries with the tools they need to fundraise effectively. The team is around 40 people, lean, product-focused, and used to moving fast without a lot of red tape.

This is a chance to join as the first dedicated DevOps hire, taking full ownership of infrastructure that currently spans five AWS accounts, and shaping it into something modern, secure, and built to scale.

The Role

Our client is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with 4+ years of hands‑on AWS experience to take complete ownership of cloud infrastructure across multiple AWS accounts and bring it up to modern standards. You'll step into a sprawling multi‑account environment, consolidate it, harden the security posture, and prepare systems for heavy traffic loads while maintaining a strong track record of zero downtime. The ideal person is self‑directed, hungry to learn, comfortable using AI tooling day to day, and ready to make the infrastructure their own without waiting to be told what to do. PHP and Laravel experience is a strong plus, since the role may expand into application‑level work over time.

What you'll own

• Owning and consolidating infrastructure across five AWS accounts, bringing order and enforcing least‑privilege IAM, and enabling security scoring across all properties
• Managing EC2 fleets, keeping servers updated, and preparing horizontal scaling for heavy traffic periods
• Building out real observability with CloudWatch metrics, alarms, and monitoring to maintain zero downtime
• Improving security posture by raising AWS Security Hub scores, managing WAF rules, and keeping all infrastructure technology current
• Supporting a small engineering team of seven and gradually taking on application‑level work in PHP and Laravel as the infrastructure stabilizes

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of experience in DevOps or infrastructure engineering with hands‑on AWS expertise
• Strong working knowledge of EC2, Aurora MySQL, RDS, Application Load Balancer, Auto Scaling Groups, S3, ElastiCache, CloudWatch, IAM, and AWS Organizations
• Experience with SES, WAFv2, CloudFormation, Systems Manager, and GitLab CI/CD
• Comfort with Terraform, Docker, ECR, ECS, and Linux environments
• Familiarity with Cloudflare, Route 53, and Tailscale
• PHP and Laravel experience is a strong plus, along with familiarity with Apache, nginx, PHP-FPM, and Composer
• Self‑directed mindset with a builder's mentality, comfortable taking ownership without heavy oversight
• Proficiency with AI tooling to support day‑to‑day engineering work
