Job summary

Compunnel, Inc. is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to support and modernize a Windows-based application stack. You will own migration projects, manage IIS-hosted apps, and drive automation, CI/CD, and IaC across IaaS in a hybrid Azure environment.

The role emphasizes Windows experience, deployment automation, security, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver stable, scalable platforms.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of DevOps or infrastructure engineering experience in Windows environments.
  • Hands-on IIS administration and reliable app deployment practices.
  • Strong Windows Server and Windows Services troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience migrating legacy workloads to modern Windows/IaaS setups.
  • Proficient with CI/CD tools and scripting (PowerShell).

Responsibilities

  • Lead migration of applications from legacy Windows Server to modern versions.
  • Manage IIS-hosted apps and Windows Services for reliability.
  • Ensure stability, performance, and security of IaaS environments.
  • Support SQL Server connectivity, permissions, and service accounts.
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (TeamCity/Octopus Deploy).
  • Improve deployment reliability and release processes.
  • Contribute to IaC standards and cloud modernization efforts.
  • Enhance monitoring and observability; support Azure-based workloads.
  • Document architectures, decisions, and operational processes.
  • Collaborate with development, security, and infrastructure teams.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to support and modernize our Windows-based application landscape. This role focuses on infrastructure reliability, application migration, automation, CI/CD optimization, and operational excellence across IaaS environments. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on Windows infrastructure expertise with DevOps practices and automation capabilities, collaborating closely with development, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver stable, scalable, and secure platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead migration of applications from legacy Windows Server environments to modern versions (2022+).
  • Manage IIS-hosted applications and Windows Services.
  • Ensure stability, performance, and security of IaaS-based environments.
  • Support SQL Server connectivity, configuration, and service account management.
  • Automation & DevOps Practices
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, or similar).
  • Improve deployment reliability and release processes.
  • Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code standards and practices.
  • Modernization & Cloud
  • Participate in replatforming and refactoring initiatives.
  • Enhance monitoring, logging, and observability practices (ELK, monitoring tools).
  • Support Azure-based workloads and hybrid environments.
  • Documentation & Governance
  • Document environments, architecture decisions, and operational processes.
  • Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to change management and governance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with internal security and operational policies.
  • W ork closely with development, security, infrastructure, and project teams.
  • Provide technical guidance during design and migration planning.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for production incidents.
Required Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or related roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • IIS administration and application deployment
  • Windows Server administration
  • Windows Services configuration and troubleshooting
  • Experience migrating legacy workloads to modern environments.
  • Practical understanding of SQL Server (connection strings, permissions, service accounts).
  • CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance (TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, or similar tools).
  • PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Experience with Azure or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and Active Directory.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with .NET application environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Azure infrastructure provisioning and configuration (Terraform, PowerShell, ARM/Bicep).
  • Exposure to containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of observability tools (ELK stack, APM tools).
  • Security hardening and vulnerability remediation experience.
Certifications
  • Not required, but certifications in Microsoft Azure, Windows Server Administration, or DevOps practices are considered a plus.
