Appian is seeking a Systems Consultant II to join the Federal Customer Success DevOps team in McLean, VA. You’ll bridge cloud infrastructure engineering with modern application delivery, supporting 애n automated workflows for government agencies in hybrid cloud environments.

Responsibilities include scaling Appian across federal environments, mastering Linux/Windows Admin, and automating operations with scripting. Requires 2–4 years in IT systems administration and a Security+ certification.

  • Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a federal security clearance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Experience: 2–4 years of IT systems administration with building, patching, scripting and managing hosts, databases, and cloud networks.
  • Compliance Certification: Must possess an active CompTIA Security+ or be willing to obtain after onboarding.

Systems Consultant II

Our Federal DevOps Engineering team works hand-in-hand with government agencies, ensuring their automated workflows are resilient, securely scaled, and continuously optimized. Grounded in a culture of in-person collaboration at our McLean HQ, we tackle complex technical challenges to keep public infrastructure running smoothly across the AI-Powered Process Automation landscape.

The Opportunity

As a DevOps Engineer within our Federal Customer Success division, you will bridge the gap between cloud infrastructure engineering and modern application delivery. This role is vital right now because federal agencies are rapidly scaling their digital footprints across hybrid and secure cloud ecosystems. Under the guidance of senior architects, you will gain deep operational mastery of our software platform, automate underlying infrastructures, and enable agencies to achieve true Enterprise-Grade Orchestration.

What You'll Do
  • Scale Cloud Infrastructure: Participate in the installation, day-to-day operation, and scaling of the Appian platform across federal customer environments.
  • Master Cloud & Systems Administration: Expand your hands-on systems administration footprint (Linux, Windows) across major IaaS Solutions such as AWS, Google Compute Engine, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Automate Platform Operations: Utilize programming and scripting skills (BASH, Java, JavaScript, Python, or Ruby) to automate patching, configuration management, and deployment workflows.
  • Manage Enterprise Data Tiering: Administer and optimize relational database platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server) with increasing operational independence.
  • Deliver Strategic Technical Support: Interface directly with federal clients to troubleshoot infrastructure roadblocks, provide exceptional technical guidance, and ensure environment stability.
  • Navigate Public Sector Processes: Develop a comprehensive understanding of client business processes, supporting both secure cloud and on-premise government installations.
Required Qualifications
  • Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with the absolute ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of professional experience in IT systems administration, with a proven track record of building, maintaining, scripting, patching, and managing hosts, databases, and interconnected cloud networks.
  • Compliance Certification: Must possess an active CompTIA Security+ certification or be willing to successfully complete the certification directly following onboarding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior hands-on experience administering and managing an on-premise installation of an Appian environment or similar enterprise workflow engine.
  • Foundational exposure to container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or Docker.
  • We value experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or ServiceNow, as these skills translate well into our Enterprise-Grade Orchestration environment.

The base salary range provided represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range at the time of posting. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for a government clearance differential. Actual compensation will be dependent on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant work experience, qualifications, internal peer equity, and market and business conditions that exist when extending an offer. A discretionary bonus may be awarded in recognition of individual and company performance.

In addition, Appian provides generous benefits offerings that include a 401(k) plan with company match, flexible time off, paid parental leave, medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, disability insurance, wellness programs, flexible spending accounts, health savings account contributions, an employee referral bonus program, and learning and development resources. Base Salary Range

$96,000 — $150,000 USD
