DevOps Engineer

Role Summary

ADMT represents the Volkswagen Group as its driver for building self-driving technology. This position will support the cloud platform and development teams by enhancing and maintaining the development and deployment processes for our autonomous driving applications. The role involves utilizing the cloud platform’s capabilities to optimize CI/CD pipelines, automate infrastructure management, and ensure the reliability and scalability of our systems. Additionally, you will address developer operational issues and work to maintain service level agreements (SLAs).

The DevOps Engineering team will be integrated within the cloud platform team, working collaboratively toward shared objectives. While they maintain a strong focus on enhancing developer productivity and supporting operational efficiency, they will also play a vital role in contributing to the platform's OKRs. This alignment ensures that both teams work synergistically, optimizing workflows, streamlining processes, and driving overall organizational success. By fostering a culture of collaboration, the DevOps team helps to create a seamless environment that not only boosts developer efficiency but also supports the broader goals of the platform team.

Role Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to automate the integration, testing, and deployment of applications.
  • Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CDK to support the management and provisioning of cloud infrastructure built by the cloud platform team.
  • Implement and support monitoring, logging, and observability solutions to ensure system performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with software developers, QA engineers, and system architects to facilitate seamless development and deployment processes.
  • Identify opportunities for automation within the development and deployment workflows to enhance efficiency.
  • Participate in incident response and assist in root cause analysis to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Stay updated on DevOps best practices and emerging technologies, providing feedback to improve our processes and tools.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of systems, processes, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years relevant experience

Education

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with an emphasis on using existing infrastructure.
  • Basic knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Istio) and orchestration tools.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, or Go.
  • Understanding of database management systems (e.g., SQL/NoSQL).
  • Proficiency in Linux administration and a solid understanding of networking concepts.
  • Proficiency in security tools such as Grype, CodeQL, AWS Inspector, and open-source software scanning solutions.
  • Awareness of security best practices in cloud environments.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools, including Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, ELK, and Jaeger.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and frameworks, as well as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools like Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • AWS or GCP certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect) are a plus.

Work Flexibility

  • Travel is estimated to be 10%.

In the Silicon Valley, the salary range for this role will be $145,000 - $165,000, depending on education and years of relevant experience. Salary is determined by geographical location and adjusted accordingly. Other benefits for this position include:
