Job summary

Yaqeen Institute seeks an experienced Developmental Editor to work closely with authors on long-form, non-fiction manuscripts. The role requires sharpening structure, tone, and argument while preserving the author's voice and maintaining strong engagement with Islamic scholarship.

The editor will coordinate with scholars and the book team to ensure rigorous citations and transliteration standards, and to incorporate peer-review feedback.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in developmental editing of long-form, non-fiction manuscripts.
• Experience editing works in religion, politics, or world affairs preferred.
• Ability to break down complex theological, philosophical, ethical, or legal arguments for diverse readers.

Responsibilities

• Identify weaknesses in argument and structure, gaps in research, and aid in expansion/removal of sections.
• Reorganize and rewrite passages to strengthen structure, clarity, and tone while preserving author voice.
• Suggest or verify citations from classical or contemporary scholarship.
• Communicate edits with authors and manage revisions collaboratively.
• Incorporate peer-review feedback into drafts.
• Coordinate with style/copyediting team to meet citation and transliteration standards.
