Job summary

Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach is seeking a Superintendent (Development Track) to oversee daily golf course operations, lead a 17–26 person staff, and execute both short- and long-term agronomic plans. This hands-on role offers progression toward full superintendent responsibilities and greater autonomy.

Qualifications

• Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of golf course maintenance experience; supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of warm and cool season grasses and cultural programs.
• Experience with irrigation systems, water management practices, and repair techniques.
• Knowledge and understanding how budget align for long- and short-term goals.
• Familiarity with modern turf management technologies and data platforms.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Valid pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and execute all daily golf course maintenance operations.
• Schedule, train, and lead staff to meet conditioning and presentation standards.
• Assist in planning and execution of agronomic programs including fertility, plant protectants, and cultural practices.
• Utilize technology platforms and scheduling tools for record keeping and decision support.
• Monitor course conditions and adjust practices based on data and real-time observations.
• Assist with irrigation management, water use efficiency, and system maintenance.
• Support capital improvement projects and long-term course development plans.
• Promote and build upon a strong, positive team culture.
• Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with environmental standards.
• Communication within the industry with manufacturers, vendors, and local and national superintendent associations.
