Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a Development Specialist (PT) for the Office of Development on Main Campus Jackson. This role identifies, solicits and stewards donors to support UMMC’s causes through annual, major and deferred gifts.

You will work with individuals, foundations and corporations to meet fundraising goals. You will collaborate with the major gifts officer to meet prospective donors, coordinate development efforts, and maintain positive donor relationships

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; two years fundraising, sales, marketing, public relations, or business experience preferred.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assists the major gifts officer in soliciting/raising major, principal and deferred gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.
• Designs and coordinates fundraising and marketing support programs for UMMC as assigned by leadership.
• Develops strategies for solicitation and donor relationships, determining interaction levels and gift purposes.
• Drafts communications to donors—letters, proposals, thank you notes, case statements, calls and meetings.
• Collaborates with committees to plan fundraising events.
• Maintains donor records and reports progress toward fundraising goals in the donor management system.
• Contacts donors to clarify gift intentions and retrieve missing information.

Job Summary

Identifies, solicits and stewards donors to various causes at the medical center. Work with individuals, corporations and foundations to assist in soliciting financial support to achieve the fundraising goals of the University of Mississippi Medical Center through prospect research, cultivation and securing gifts in the form of annual giving, major gifts and/or deferred gifts. Work with the major gifts officer to meet with prospective and past donors and coordinate development efforts with both internal and external audiences. Works collaboratively with internal and external constituents to maintain positive donor relationships.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of work experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, public relations, or business.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to think critically and maintain confidentiality on behalf of philanthropic donors and medical center colleagues. Understanding of online giving, internet communication and social media and its applicability to fundraising. Basic knowledge of fundraising strategies, direct mail, online giving, events, and coordination and development of annual giving programs. Understanding of institutional programs and strategic initiatives and the ability to accurately pair institutional priorities with those of the prospective donor.

Responsibilities

• Assists the major gifts officer in working with individuals, corporations and foundations soliciting/raising major, principal and deferred gifts.
• Designs, coordinates, and conducts fundraising and marketing support related programs for UMMC as assigned by departmental leadership.
• Develops and proposes strategies for solicitation acquisition of major gifts, including determining the appropriate amount of interaction and ongoing relationships with a prospect/donor; recommending specific purposes and levels of gifts; identifying those who should be involved in that donor relationship and cultivation; and assuring that relationships progress to solicitation in a timely manner.
• Drafts and executes communications with donors through cultivation letters, solicitation letters, thank you notes, proposals, case statements, phone calls, and meetings for the purpose of strategically communicating and informing donors.
• Collaborates with the executive and event committees to plan and orchestrate special fundraising events.
• Assists with building and maintaining a development program and supporting database of prospective donor names and related information (including tracking and recording donor activity in a donor management system) and accurately reporting achievement of established charitable fundraising goals.
• Add and update constituent records as needed with clean up incorrect or duplicate data; analyze information and populate all appropriate data fields.
• Contact donors as needed to clarify gift intentions, answer questions, and to collect missing information.
