Job summary

ACH Child and Family Services seeks a Development Specialist to coordinate events and projects that raise funds and in-kind gifts, and to support donor stewardship. You will work with donors, committee members, and the public, handling logistics, communications, and community engagement.

The role emphasizes organized data handling, timely execution of campaigns, and collaboration with the Development Team to maximize outreach and impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required with nonprofit or special event experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience in nonprofit, special event or similar environment preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required; ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Advanced mastery of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; donor database management experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and coordination of community engagement outreach and events with emphasis on logistics.
  • Support monthly and annual giving programs and donor stewardship activities.
  • Coordinate in-kind donation drives (school supplies, gifts, tickets) and distribution to programs.
  • Build community relationships and support agency visibility at events.
  • Aid in mailings, digital newsletters, and ongoing donor communications.
  • Support volunteer program activities, record keeping, and data entry.

Description

Position Function

The Development Specialist will be responsible for coordination and logistics oversight and implementation for a variety of internal and external events and projects that raise funds, awareness and in‑kind gifts for ACH Child and Family Services. This person will also play an important role as a member of the Development Team supporting donor stewardship and recognition activities and events and work directly with donors, committee members and the public.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required with similar nonprofit or special event experience.

Experience Requirements

At least 1‑3 years of experience in nonprofit, special event or similar environment is preferred.

Functional Requirements

Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, advanced mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power-Point. Database management using donor-based software experience a plus. Must be highly organized and detail-orientated, demonstrate excellent time-management skills, initiative, and able to multi-task and work independently.

Working Conditions

Heavy computer use and clerical functions in an office environment, attendance at ACH events and public functions, and some work on evenings and weekends required. Lifting files and office supplies required, up to 25 pounds.

Maintain confidentiality and follow policies related to donor and client records.

Key Expectations/Responsibilities
  • Assists with planning and coordinating of community engagement outreach and events, special fundraising and assigned program events, with emphasis on logistics.
  • Supports team activity to grow monthly and annual giving donation program
  • Supports, as needed 3rd party and beneficiary events, and supports agency visibility at community fairs.
  • Coordinates agency in‑kind donation needs and solicitation of in‑kind donations and disbursement to programs, including school supplies, Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas gifts, tickets and passes for enrichment activities, and other drives as needed.
  • Supports community engagement by building new relationships in the community.
  • Supports mailings, communication activities and ongoing digital e-newsletters.
  • Proactively seeks, identifies and matches annual fundraising donors to activities including some acquisition and renewal in coordination with all members of the team.
  • Participate in donor stewardship activities in support of the team.
  • Provides support to volunteer program including some oversight of volunteer activities, stewardship, data entry, and record keeping.
  • Provides support to department special events and volunteer activities, including on occasional nights and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned to support members of the Development/Marketing team and to attain departmental goals.
