Job summary

The City of Bakersfield, CA is seeking a qualified professional to support the Planning or Building Division of the Development Services Department. Under supervision, you will perform duties related to land use, economic development, and building activities, and assist with permit processing and plan reviews.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, college coursework in planning, and experience in planning or public administration with emphasis on building codes or zoning.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED.
• Two years of college with course work in planning or related field preferred; AND
• Two years' experience in planning or public administration with an emphasis in building construction, architecture, or engineering relating to the permitting, processing, or reviewing of building plans and specification, code enforcement or zoning compliance; OR
• An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience, which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties.
• Possession of a valid California Class “C” driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within the Planning or Building Division requiring understanding of land use and economic development and/or building activities.
• Assists with permit processing and review of building plans and specifications.
• Under supervision, performs other duties as required.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Two years of college coursework in planning or related field

Two years' experience in planning or public administration with emphasis in building construction, architecture, or engineering

Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience

California Class C driver's license
