The Engineering Inspector is responsible for overseeing and performing complex inspections on public and private infrastructure projects, including roads, utilities, stormwater, and other public works. This role ensures that all projects comply with applicable standards, codes, and regulations, as well as with the approved engineering plans and specifications. This role also requires extensive experience in public works and construction inspection, as well as a thorough understanding of engineering principles. The Engineering Inspector plays a critical role in maintaining the quality, safety, and integrity of public infrastructure.
**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.

Primary Responsibilities
- Perform detailed inspections of a wide range of public and private infrastructure projects, including roads, utilities, stormwater, and other public works.
- Ensure that all work complies with approved plans, specifications, and applicable standards, codes, and regulations.
- Identify potential issues and non-compliance, document findings, and communicate necessary corrective actions to developers, contractors, and project managers.
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, including photographs, measurements, videos, test results, and detailed descriptions of deficiencies.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, ensuring documentation is accessible for review by relevant parties.
- Participate in project meetings, providing updates and discussing issues.
- Monitor construction activities for adherence to project requirements and standards.
- Verify materials meet project specifications.
- Conduct or oversee testing procedures to ensure quality and compliance.
- Serve as a liaison among stakeholders to facilitate effective communication.
- Address and resolve issues during construction, coordinating with relevant parties.
- Provide updates to supervisors on significant issues or deviations.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Identify safety hazards and take action to mitigate risks.
- Promote safety culture within the team and contractors.
- Stay current with industry standards through ongoing professional development.
- Recommend improvements to inspection procedures.
- Participate in professional organizations and training.
- Work with senior inspectors and supervisors to improve skills.
- Provide technical support on construction methods and regulatory compliance.
- Review and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Advise on potential design or construction changes.
Additional Duties
Performs other related work as required. In emergencies, all employees may be assigned to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in engineering inspection or construction management.
Certifications/Licenses
- Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector (FSESCI)
- FDOT Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Advanced Certification
- Applicants have a one-year grace period to obtain missing certificates.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in public and private infrastructure projects.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, inspection techniques, and relevant codes.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving skills and proactive issue resolution.
- Proficiency in MS Office, project management, and inspection reporting tools.
- Knowledge of TTC and MUTCD standards.
All employees must attend Seminole County required trainings and position-specific trainings as needed.
