Job summary

The Community Builders Inc. (TCB) is seeking a Development Associate to support project teams from due diligence through leasing, working with colleagues across divisions to advance affordable housing developments.

You will learn project finance, entitlements, and construction processes while contributing to timely, budget-conscious outcomes. Ideal candidates bring a passion for socially responsible real estate, strong financial and analytical abilities, and effective communication skills to

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 1–3 years of work experience or equivalents.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to present data clearly.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to multi-task across several development initiatives and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and support all stages of the development process including due diligence and entitlements.
  • Assist with regulatory approvals, financing, design, construction and leasing activities.
  • Support team in preparing responses to proposals and representing the organization at meetings.
  • Contribute to delivering projects on schedule and within budget with a resident-centered focus.

The Development Associate role at TCB

Are you a creative problem solver with a focus on positive outcomes? Do you enjoy working on tangible projects that make a financial and physical difference to the communities where we work? As a Project Associate you will partner with more senior members of the Mid Atlantic development team in their role as point person for projects in Virginia and North Carolina. Additionally, the Project Associate may collaborate with TCB staff in other divisions, such as Property Management, Community Life, Asset Management, and Finance, to advance pipeline projects and deepen our resident-focused outcomes. You will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the development process, including due diligence, entitlements, regulatory approvals, financing, design, construction, and leasing, delivering quality projects on schedule and within budget. We seek candidates with the demonstrated ability and desire to:

  • Work collaboratively, maintaining rapport with both internal and external colleagues
  • Actively participate as a team member, sharing new ideas and contributing to key initiatives
  • Set appropriate deadlines and work within them
  • Contribute to a broad range of critical activities, from organizing responses to Requests for Proposals to representing the organization at community meetings and public forums/events
  • Understand key risks and learn about strategies to avoid them
  • Work passionately to make our vision of affordable housing for all a reality
  • Support deal closures that will provide quality housing for residents in need

Here's what we're looking for
  • A passion for socially responsible real estate development
  • Strong financial and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present to audiences that are racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse
  • Ability to multi-task, handling multiple projects at once and consistently meeting deadlines
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Project (Adobe skills a plus)
  • Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years' work experience in a related field or equivalencies
  • Direct experience/familiarity with affordable housing development is ideal but not required
