Job summary

City of Greenville (SC) seeks a planning professional to assist with administering the Development Code, review land development permits, assign addresses, and provide technical guidance to staff and the public regarding Land Development regulations.

The role supports planning functions, coordinates addressing, prepares monthly reports, conducts inspections, and assists boards and commissions. It also researches amendments and investigates violations, with some meetings beyond normal hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in planning, design, public administration, or related field.
• Over two (2) years of experience in planning, design, development review, public administration, and/or related field.
• Must meet professional development requirements for Local Planning or Zoning Officials per SC Code 6-29-1310.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Reviews to Ensure Compliance With Development Regulations: meet with staff and applicants, review plans, approve permits, provide conformance comments.
• Support Planning Functions: handle zoning reviews, address assignments, data entry, invoicing, and coordination with staff and external entities.
• Provide Technical Assistance to City Staff and Public: inspect properties, translate requirements, prepare correspondence, maintain customer service.
• Provide Staff Support for Planning Boards & Commissions: review proposals, prepare notices, analyze applications, present reports.
• Research and Prepare Amendments: identify issues, develop ordinance language, prepare agenda items for Planning Commission.
• Investigate Violations: identify violations, inspect properties, issue notices, testify in court when needed.
