Job Summary
Assist the various departments across Nextlink Operations to help identify and create scripts or tools for process automation and data collection uniformity. The DEVOPS Engineer will also assist in the deployment, development, and maintenance of the Nextlink physical and cloud compute/server infrastructure and the testing of new infrastructure devices coming onto the Nextlink network.
Essential Functions
- Develop, test, and maintain up-to-date device models for the Nextlink Monitoring systems.
- Work with Engineering, Field, and NOC teams to ensure the correct monitoring, data collection, and standards are being met.
- Identify, develop, and maintain scripts/tools for process or task automation to improve efficiency.
- Provide process/task automation and network/device change automation.
- Assist in the deployment, development, and maintenance of physical or cloud compute infrastructure.
- Manage datacenter and deployment of physical servers and hardware, including identification of resource needs, ordering, configuration, lifecycle management/maintenance, and deployment.
- Deploy and configure cloud services such as Google Cloud (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS), including resource needs, configuration, and deployment.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert for network operation and infrastructure devices.
- Develop standards for configuration and proper use of these devices.
- Assist in testing devices before they are allowed on the network per the Nextlink launchpad product process.
- Assist the Data Operations team in collecting network or infrastructure device data.
- Document code and work per Nextlink standard operating procedures.
- Assist in the development of SOP documentation and training.
- Follow Nextlink standards for software documentation and code backup.
- Track and report on projects or work.
Skills
- Highly motivated, very organized, and able to multitask.
- Knowledge and experience with Python and other common automation programming languages.
- Knowledge and experience with physical server and computer hardware.
- Knowledge and experience with cloud compute services such as GCP or AWS.
- Advanced network operation and design experience.
- Experience documenting and using tools such as GitHub or other code repositories.
- Ability to document, track, prioritize, and report on work/projects.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from one-year college or technical school; or two-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with routers, switches, and other common network or wireless devices.
- Minimum 2 years’ SNMP experience, basic routing experience, basic wireless experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience or training in Python, HTML, CSS, Java, Bash, and other programming languages.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with Linux, Windows, and other desktop or server operating systems.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with computer and server hardware or cloud compute services.
Job Classification
Software Development/Engineering – Non‑Exempt.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Office environment, moderate noise level, 8‑10 hour stationary position per day, ability to move objects up to 50 pounds, frequent seat/standing moves, ability to communicate via email and telephone.
Travel & Working Hours
Travel 0‑10% of the time. Full‑time; may need off‑hours, weekends, or night shift to support 24×7 service.
