Job summary

Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC, seeks an experienced Associate Director of Development to lead fundraising strategy and oversee a five-person team responsible for individual and institutional giving.

The role manages a portfolio of about 80 major donors, supports Simon's Circle, and works with senior leadership and the Board to advance STC's $60 million campaign and broad philanthropic goals.

Qualifications

• Eight years of escalating experience in individual giving and major gift fundraising.
• Experience mentoring fundraising professionals and collaborating with senior leadership and volunteer boards.
• Familiarity with institutional giving and capital campaigns is desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of Shakespeare and classical theatre is helpful but not required.
• Experience with Tessitura or a comparable fundraising database is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Development team and set fundraising strategy.
• Manage a portfolio of ~80 major donors and prospects, including the Simon's Circle.
• Oversee donor recognition, engagement opportunities, and donor travel.
• Partner with senior leadership and the Board on campaign priorities and stewardship.
