Job summary

Cherry Bekaert is seeking an accomplished Development Lead in its Development & Engineering group. This senior, hands-on engineering leader will deliver production-grade code while guiding technical direction, mentorship, code reviews, and cross-team delivery.

You will coordinate frontend and backend work (React, Next.js, TypeScript, Python, Flask), enforce quality standards, advocate secure coding practices, and drive Agile delivery with Architects and the Director of Development & Engineering.

Role & responsibilities

The Development Lead is a senior hands-on engineering leader within Cherry Bekaert's Development & Engineering department. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, production-grade code while providing technical direction, mentorship, code review rigor, and delivery coordination across the developer team. The Development Lead ensures frontend and backend work is secure, maintainable, tested, documented, and ready for the DevSecOps pipeline before release. The role partners with Solution Architects, Development Engineers, and the Director of Development & Engineering to support Agile delivery, engineering standards, and continuous improvement.

• Design, write, test, and maintain production-grade application code across frontend and backend technologies, including React, Next.js, TypeScript, Python, and Flask.
• Lead technical delivery for sprint-level features by decomposing backlog items, identifying dependencies and risks, and coordinating work across frontend and backend engineers.
• Own and enforce engineering quality standards, including code reviews, unit testing, documentation, secure coding practices, and Definition of Done adherence.
• Serve as the first escalation point for developer technical blockers, ambiguous requirements, and implementation tradeoffs; provide day-to-day technical direction to Senior Software Engineers.
• Partner with Solution Architects to execute against design direction and elevate architecture decisions that exceed sprint scope.
• Coordinate with DevOps Engineers to ensure code meets CI/CD, SAST, automated testing, coverage, and release readiness requirements.
• Mentor engineers through code review, pair programming, structured knowledge transfer, and cross-training to improve team capability and reduce single points of knowledge.
• Lead or support Agile delivery practices, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily progress tracking, retrospectives, capacity planning input, and blocker escalation.
• Maintain and improve technical documentation, including component documentation, API specifications, runbooks, reusable patterns, coding standards, and architecture decision records.
• Monitor post-deployment behavior for team releases and support incident response or corrective action for development-caused issues.
• Provides leadership to team including coaching, mentoring and professional development or oversight to a department. Responsible for providing performance feedback on a regular basis.

Participate in hiring activities for developer roles, including technical assessment review, technical interviews, and substantive input on candidate fit.

Preferred Skills-

• Strong full-stack software development skills across modern frontend and backend technologies, including React, Next.js, TypeScript, Python, and Flask.
• Demonstrated ability to write clean, secure, maintainable, production-ready code and review code across frontend and backend disciplines.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger documentation standards, SQL databases, cloud platforms, Docker, and CI/CD workflows.
• Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices, SAST tooling, automated testing, coverage thresholds, deployment gates, and secure coding principles including OWASP Top 10.
• Strong Agile delivery skills, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, estimation, daily progress tracking, retrospectives, and Definition of Done adherence.
• Experience as a mentor and coach to technically develop engineers through code review, pair programming, knowledge transfer, and constructive feedback.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and sound judgement skills with the ability to identify technical debt, delivery risks, quality gaps, and security concerns early.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts, status, risks, and decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong documentation discipline, including component documentation, API specifications, operational runbooks, coding standards, and reusable engineering patterns.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, balance hands-on development with team leadership, and drive continuous improvement in engineering practices.
• Capable of people leadership including professional development support, regular performance feedback, and oversight of team execution.
• Ability to participate in hiring and talent assessment activities, including reviewing technical assessments, conducting technical interviews, and providing substantive input on candidate fit.

Education- Graduation in B.E & B.Tech or Computer Science related
