Job summary

A nonprofit organization is seeking a Development Intern to assist with fundraising, donor relations, and special events during the fall season. This immersive role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit development, communications, and database management. Ideal candidates should be enrolled in relevant undergraduate or graduate programs, possess strong communication skills, and be detail-oriented. Mentorship and flexible scheduling available. This is an unpaid internship with academic credit options.

Qualifications

  • Preferred fields include Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, Business, History, Arts Administration, or related.
  • Interest in history, museums, or cultural organizations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship activities.
  • Draft donor correspondence, sponsorship materials, and acknowledgement letters.
  • Conduct prospect research on individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Help prepare for special events, including donor receptions and community programs.
  • Maintain and update donor records in the development database.

Experience with CRM databases

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program

Job description

The Development Intern will work closely with the Director of Development to support fundraising, donor relations, and special events during the busy fall season. This hands‑on role provides valuable experience in nonprofit development, event coordination, donor communications, and database management, all while contributing to the success of HBMS’s mission.

  • Compensation: Unpaid; academic credit available if arranged through your institution
  • Location: Bethlehem, PA (hybrid work options may be available)
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship activities
  • Draft donor correspondence, sponsorship materials, and acknowledgement letters
  • Conduct prospect research on individuals, foundations, and corporate partners
  • Help prepare for special events, including donor receptions and community programs
  • Maintain and update donor records in the development database
  • Support the development team in tracking donations and preparing reports
  • Assist in creating content for development-related social media posts and newsletters
  • Provide general administrative support to the Development Department
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (preferred fields: Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, Business, History, Arts Administration, or related)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM databases is a plus
  • Interest in history, museums, or cultural organizations is preferred
