Job summary

Marotta Controls, Inc. is seeking a Development Engineering Technician in Montville, NJ to assist the development team with assembly and testing of hardware and test setups.

You will support manufacturing objectives, build development units, and document testing processes for new and existing products. Responsibilities include building/test units, resolving production issues, developing procedures, and collaborating with internal/external teams.

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of related production/operations experience.
  • Attending or completed engineering or trade school in mechanical/electrical/electronics/HVAC.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Exposure to manufacturing/machine shop environments and PPE requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Build and test internal and external development units.
  • Investigate, assess, and resolve development and production problems.
  • Develop and document assembly procedures and build processes.
  • Understand capabilities of manufacturing tools and equipment.
  • Support testing in-house and at external facilities.
  • Escalate issues to mitigate schedule slips.
  • Communicate exceptions to schedules to internal stakeholders.

Overview

The Development Engineering Technician is primarily responsible for assisting the development team in the assembly and testing of new and existing hardware and test setups. Reporting to the Development Engineering Manager, this individual will support the company’s manufacturing and operational objectives by assisting the development lab in building, testing, and documenting methods and processes on new and existing products. The Development Engineering Technician will also support internal and external development and qualification test activities.

Support the Development department in:

  • Building and testing internal and external customer development units
  • Investigating, assessing, and resolving development and production problems
  • Support and develop assembly procedures and document the development build process
  • Understand capabilities of manufacturing tools and equipment
  • Develop realistic/achievable actions plans to support testing strategies
  • Support all testing both in house and at outside test facilities
  • Operate electronic data capture equipment dn compile all contained data
  • Escalate any potential issues early to mitigate program schedule slips
  • Effectively communicate exceptions to established/agreed upon schedules to all affected parties internally
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
  • Facilitate training, as needed, to maintain a cross-trained workforce and to support operational goals and objectives
  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to various regulatory and internal system requirements
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization
  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. to provide constructive recommendations and initiate actions to support company initiatives/goals

  • Ensure that work area and work areas of direct reports are clean, secure, and well maintained
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • 0 to 2 years of related experience in a production/operations environment.
  • Attending or completed engineering or trade school for mechanical, electrical, electronics, or HVAC
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • This is a full-time position. Overtime and weekend work may be required, as job duties demand.
  • 0 to 25% Travel is expected for this position
