Job summary

Oglethorpe University seeks an Assistant Director of Development to cultivate, solicit, and steward annual donors capable of giving between $1,000 and $10,000. The role manages a leadership annual giving portfolio and builds relationships to increase donor participation and philanthropic support for the university.

The Officer partners with annual giving, alumni engagement, and advancement to strengthen the pipeline from annual giving to major gifts while supporting university priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or preferred in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of donor relations, development, and event planning experience.
• Ability to cross-train in other areas of annual giving to provide coverage when needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service and professional phone/email etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Portfolio management: cultivate and solicit gifts $1,000–$10,000 from leadership annual giving prospects.
• Develop and implement individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
• Conduct in-person visits, virtual meetings, calls, and personalized communications.
• Meet and exceed annual visit, solicitation, and revenue goals.
• Identify prospects for transition to major gift officers and maintain CRM records.
• Collaborate with alumni engagement and advancement teams to strengthen donor pipelines.
